I would love to see Massachusetts ban all plastic bags, Paper bags should stay. It would force more people to bring their own reusable bags with them. I keep 8 in my car at all times. If you cannot or will not ban them at least start charging for them. It will make people think and I do wish more people would get involved with what happens on this earth. Lets keep it clean. It is here for our future generations.

This has to be a violation of personal rights. Please people, realize that if they can tell a store what to charge for a bag, they can tell a store what to charge for a loaf of bread. These counsil members obviously have no regard for personal rights and will not stop here. Calling all class action lawsuit lawyers!!!!! Help!!!

Its a stupid ban. Plastic bags are the best way to bag your groceries or anything. If people dont pollute it will be the next best thing. The problem is that people think its bad. But its not. Those reuseable cloth shopping bags people think are the best are actually bad for you. THEY ARE MADE WITH LEAD. Look it up on the internet. They are made in China. THEY ARE MADE WITH LEAD.

I believe we desparately need to encourage people to stop accepting new plastic bags whenever they shop or accept items from a store. I believe this will encourage people to carry their own re-usable bags. This idea seems to have been adopted by many countries outside the U.S. before we have been able to adopt it. It seems that adults are ‘frightened’ by the concept of trying to do things in a different way from how they presently do it. Ask any five year-old you know if they think plastic bags are good for the environment. If you feel that is too young of an age to ask, select an older age child who you believe could comfortably answer this question. Please tell us what they told you. Let’s try to give up this unnecessary habit and find better ways to carry items we need to carry. Thank you.

We need the plastic bags ban, not only are they a hazard to the environment when made but most of the time people trash them or leave them on the streets. If you care about the planet use reusable bags, Don’t be mad just because your to lazy to buy and remember them.

The City of San Jose claims they exceed the allowable amount of trash in the water ways and streets. They claim that residents of SJ are responsible for the trash. I have witnessed for years how Waste Management lifts up the garbage cans to dump trash in the truck and the wind pulls it out. The City claims it is the residents, but how can they know that the plastic bag originated in San Jose? If our residents are not educated about the dangers of plastic bags, why do you allow the people on welfare to have access to free bags? Is that discrimination?
And finally, have you ever looked into people’s cars when you walk thru parking lots? Do you really want someone’s reusable bag from one of those cars on the counter in our supermarket? Do we really want to introduce more bacteria to our environments? How do we save resources washing and drying bags?
Where is there a good lawyer who can fight this ridiculous law back into the plastic bag? Really City of San Jose, what are you thinking?

The LA County ordinance only effects the unincorporated parts of the county. The ordinance doesn't affect any incorporated city. Each city must pass their own legislation. Some cities have done this, including the cities of Long Beach and Santa Monica, which are also in LA County.

If part of LA County, which has a single-use plastic bag ban ordinance, why would Calabasas have to pass its own, separate ordinance?
