The City of Edmonds, Washington, USA passed a plastic bag ban one year ago. The law gave retailers one year to transition from plastic bags and switch to reusable checkout bags or recyclable paper bags. The City’s plastic bag ban went into effect on Friday, August 27, 2010.
Edmonds is the first city in the state of Washington to impose a ban on single-use plastic bags. Other cities along the west coast are studying plastic bag bans and I’m sure they will be watching Edmonds’ ban.
