Milpitas, California Considers Restricting Single-Use Bags

On Tuesday, October 4, the Milpitas City Council will be in session. During that session, Council is set to receive a report of a study completed on single-use carryout bags.  After receiving the report, Council will direct staff to prepare an ordinance to restrict distribution of single-use bags.

The City of Milpitas contracted with a private company to complete a study and report the options for reducing the use of single-use carryout bags.

Milpitas, located in Santa Clara County, is a suburb of San Jose, California.  Earlier this year, San Jose passed it's own Single-Use Carryout Bag Ordinance which is set to take effect on January 1st, 2012.  Nearby,  is the town of Fremont who is also considering an ordinance regulating single-use bags.
