Salem, OR, April 20, 2013 (PBBR) - Oregon Senate Bill 113 seeks to regulate single-use checkout bags in the state of Oregon.
If the bill becomes law, it will:
- Prohibit all retailers from distributing any type of single-use bag (paper or plastic) to a customer
- Prohibit local governments from imposing a fee on checkout bags
- Repeal the statute requiring retailers who provide plastic bags to also provide paper bags
- Requires a five cents fee for recycled paper bags given to a customer
The bill is currently being considered by the Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
