Sunset Valley, Texas Passes Plastic Bag Ban

Sunset Valley, Texas - On February 19, 2013, the small town of Sunset Valley, Texas passed a plastic bag ban. With the town being completely surrounded by the City of Austin, the City Council based the ordinance on Austin's Carryout Bag Ordinance.

After Austin's plastic bag ordinance was adopted and became law in 2012, the Sunset Valley City Council began to consider an ordinance to regulate single-use bags. At the Council's November, 2012 meeting, city staff was directed to draft an ordinance and conduct meetings for public input. The meetings were held on January 16th, 2013.

The Council passed and approved the ordinance on February 19th. The ordinance becomes effective on September 1st, 2013 and all businesses are affected.
