Vermont Legislator Proposes 5 Cent Fee on Disposable Bags

Montpelier, VT, April 19, 2013 (PBBR) - Vermont State Senator Richard McCormack has introduced a bill into the General Assembly of the State of Vermont that would impose a fee of five cents on disposable carryout bags.

If passed, bill H.491 would apply to any type of disposable shopping bag, no matter what material it is made of. The law would also apply to any retailer, not just food merchants.

Status of Bill: Read first time and referred to Committee on Natural Resources and Energy.
